English Language Arts
We utilize Journeys, a comprehensive K-6 English language arts program, for our English Language Arts instruction. It provides an instructional system for reading both literature and informational texts, for acquiring foundational skills, and for developing mastery of speaking, listening and writing.
Numbers should add up to more than a right answer. They should inspire aha moments and joyful connections. That’s why Eureka Math is the most widely used mathematics curriculum in the United States. It revolutionized math education by setting a new standard for rigor, coherence, and focus in the classroom so students gain a deeper understanding of the why behind the numbers, all while making math more enjoyable to learn and teach.
We utilize the NYCDOE K-8: Passport to Social Studies program is a comprehensive instructional resource that integrates the Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) and supports the New York City K-8 Social Studies Scope & Sequence. The newly developed Unit Guides are structured to support high quality social studies instruction that will engage students in historical thinking and disciplinary literacy.
We utilize Amplify Science, a robust, multimodal, hands-on program made to fulfill 100 percent of the NGSS, as well as a substantial number of the Common Core ELA and Math standards.
Students receive music classes one to two periods a day in a specialty: general music, chorus, art, drama, music keyboard and violin. Each year our music students perform in recitals, musicals and music extravaganzas. Students visit some of the city's top music and art organizations such as Lincoln Center, B.A.M and attend Broadway musicals.
We partner with Studio in a School to bring visual arts education taught by professional artists to our students.
Every classroom is equipped with a SmartBoard and each grade has its own laptop cart. Students in grades K-5 receive computer classes in a brand-new computer lab. Our Teach Team is comprised of Lead Techs from each grade who go on learning adventures to Apple and Microsoft, for example, and support our school with technology integration.
