University Settlement provides a free after school program in our building Monday-Friday, from 2:20-5:20, for students in grades K-5.
The program fosters social, emotional, physical, moral and cognitive development through creative, project-based learning. The program emphasizes literacy and education, providing homework help, tutoring, and the opportunity to use reading and writing as tools for exploration. In addition, they offer a range of enriching experiences, including:
- Visual Arts
- Community Service
- A nutritious dinner
They also have a program during school holidays, filling potentially idle hours with enriching recreational and educational activities that might otherwise be unavailable to the youth we serve.
Studio in a School
We received two grants to help bring Studio's visual arts programs to all students in grades K-5.
Studio in a School fosters the creative and intellectual development of New York City youth through quality visual arts programs, directed by arts professionals. The organization also collaborates with and develops the ability of those who provide or support arts programming and creative development for youth both in and outside of schools.
Noel Pointer Foundation
Noel Pointer Foundation provides biweekly violin instruction to students in grades 2-3. The year-long program culminates with the annual Fiddlefest Performance.
NPF has a long, fruitful history of customizing music programs for NYC public schools. Since 1998 they have served over 30,000 NYC schools. They collaborate with our school to customize curriculum to meet our needs while adhering to the New York City Department of Education’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning Music.
Imagine That teaches chess to students during lunch, so they can learn how to think ahead and make moves!
Imagine that aspires to give children and adults alike the ability of foresight. Being able to think ahead is a skill that helps in every aspect of life, and can lead to a fruitful future. Their motto is Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. The five P's are relevant in chess as well as any aspect of a successful living. They believe Chess is the perfect game to hone this skill, and should also be known by more people.
NYC Dept. for the Aging
Foster grandmothers volunteer—some full time—in classes in grades K-2 through a partnership with the NYC Dept. for the Aging.
